Dear Parents and Students, As we approach the conclusion of the 2020-21 school year, please remember that students will be expected to complete all coursework and assessments (unlike the 2019-20 school year, when schools were ordered closed). We are also expecting students to participate in the SOL tests at their respective grade level or course. The Page County Public Schools promotion/retention policy (IFAC) will be enforced. At the elementary school level, students in grades 1-5 must pass English Language Arts and Mathematics in order to be promoted. Any student in grades 4 and 5 who fails a core subject will be required to attend summer school to be considered for promotion. At the middle school level, students must pass English, Math, and Science or History in order to be promoted. Any student who fails any of these subjects will be required to attend summer school to be considered for promotion. Failure to attend and demonstrate proficiency in the necessary skills will result in retention. At the high school level, all classes that students are enrolled in at the high school level are needed for graduation. If students do not pass, they will be required to attend summer school or enroll in those classes next year. We look forward to continuing to work with you to make sure your student(s) has what is needed in order to finish the 2020-2021 school year successfully. If you have questions or concerns related to academic achievement, you are encouraged to reach out to your school administrator or counselor. Eric W. Benson Page County Public Schools Assistant Superintendent of Instruction, Accountability & Innovation

Some great news to share from PCPS! Governor Northam has announced preliminary guidance that permits in-person graduations with increased crowd sizes. PCPS has already been actively planning outdoor graduation ceremonies in addition to a virtual format. The increased crowd size will allow us to have more family members in attendance. While we are excited with the recent news, we must remember that some things will still be different due to health mitigations that will have to be adhered to during the ceremony. High School seniors and families should expect more detailed information in the coming weeks. Please share.

Clarification to the Original Post Regarding the Proposed SY Calendar for 2021-2022. The proposed Page County Public Schools 2021-22 school calendar draft has students returning to school 5 days a week beginning the week of August 23, 2021. It is built on the 180-day model and therefore the draft utilizes remote learning days to satisfy the requirements of the Virginia Department of Education as well providing some flexibility. We are working on developing a summer program to address the learning gaps that may have occurred over the past 2 years. The July and August days listed on the draft (SWH-Summer Work Hours) are 12 month employee work hours, not instructional days. Page County Public School is exploring a full remote option for students who are interested. We will continue to collect feedback and review your comments through the development of the school calendar. This is an important message from Page County Public Schools: Page County Public Schools will alter winter sports tryouts. Tryouts will be postponed for the next two weeks and the situation will be evaluated at that time for our next decision. Winter sports teams will continue with out-of-season workouts under the VHSL Phase III Guidelines during this two week period. Winter sports athletes should talk to their coach to confirm your workout time. Winter sports are Boys' and Girls' Basketball, Sideline Cheer, Wrestling and Indoor Track. All fall and spring sports will still honor the two week dead period. Therefore, no fall or spring sports will be practicing during this time. The current situation is very fluid and we will continue to update everyone as decisions are made for our school division and the Bull Run District. Thank you.
This is a very important message from Page County Public Schools: Over the past few weeks we have been closely monitoring COVID-19 data and its impact on our schools and community. In recent days, the number of cases has increased in the community. While student COVID cases and quarantines across the school division is low, our staff absences due to the virus are significantly starting to impact our ability to sustain our in person instructional model. School staff and administration have worked creatively to substitute for colleagues leveraging all our resources. We expect additional staff absences over the next few weeks to increase and we will not have the substitutes available to cover sufficiently. Therefore, we are making a short term change wherein Page County Public Schools will go FULL REMOTE for the next two weeks. After that we will all take time to celebrate the season with our 2 week winter holiday break. Schools will be putting out announcements regarding pick-ups for instructional materials. Announcements regarding food delivery and athletics will be forthcoming. Please continue to check for additional updates. Thank you.
See important information here from Nutritional Services regarding FREE meals for student over the Winter Break. https://5il.co/nkva

A few years ago Massanutten Regional Library (MRL) rolled out a Student Access Card (SAC) for use by all PCPS students. This SAC gives all students access to some of the digital resources available through MRL. It includes access to all of the school age appropriate databases provided to public libraries by the Library of Virginia as well as sources paid for by MRL for which our contracts allow this type of sharing. In an effort to help students we have created a video specific to PCPS that highlights information on how to use the card as well as some of the resources available with the card. This link will take you to the video on the MRL YouTube channel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deLrlrd2BVs&list=PLZLxa2aKIdp_WGx7uzSjhU1yBoYp6148I&index=3 Please share.

Dear Class of 2020 Students & Families, Yesterday, Page County Public Schools released information regarding plans for a virtual celebration in an effort to honor this year’s graduating class. This celebration was designed to be something extra for the Class of 2020, not in place of a traditional in-person graduation. On Tuesday, May 5, 2020, division officials participated in a conference call with State Superintendent of Education Dr. James Lane and Secretary of Education Qarni regarding commencement exercises. During this meeting, school divisions were told to use caution if they were planning for traditional in-person graduation ceremonies because it was highly unlikely that the Governor will be allowing for such large gatherings in the near future. School divisions were encouraged to model procedures used by Louisa County. In an effort to follow all the safety protocols for physical distancing during the filming, students and guests were limited to 5 (graduate & 4 guests) because 4 other school personnel and the videographer will also be present in the gymnasium (maximum is 10). Both high schools have been in touch with Jostens to try and ensure every student's graduation regalia will be available at the time of filming. The filming of the virtual celebration was scheduled for next week in order to be completed in time for students to share with their families on the original graduation date. This video will include other graduation components and special recognition. Seniors will be receiving a survey this week to seek their feedback regarding future graduation possibilities. Page County Public Schools is still prepared to conduct an in-person graduation ceremony once we are allowed to do so - whenever that may be. Again, our intention with the virtual celebration was to provide an additional way to recognize our Seniors. We hope the video serves as a memento. Additionally, each high school has purchased yard signs, hosted “Be the Light” nights, and has been posting senior spotlights on all social media platforms. It has been and will continue to be our goal to give the Seniors the recognition they deserve for their hard work over the past thirteen years.
Page County Public Schools would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our hard-working, dedicated teachers. Since we are not able to be in school this year, we'd like to encourage you and your child to participate in our own little "Thank You" recognition for our division. Sometime this week, have your child write a note or make a card/poster, take a picture and post it in the comments. So that everyone sees the participation, please submit the pictures in the comments on the Page County Public Schools Facebook Page for all of us to enjoy. Please share.
IN HONOR OF TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK HERE'S AN OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUR CHILD TO THANK A TEACHER: Please follow the instructions below if your child wishes to participate. If ever there was a group that deserved recognition, especially during this time, it's our cafeteria and Nutritional Services staff. To Jennie Jeffries, her assistant Kate Comer, and to all of PCPS Nutritional Services staff (and to the volunteers who have assisted), we applaud you for your hard work everyday, and especially since the end of March when your dedication to the students and community of Page County was never more obvious. YOU are the true Lunch Heroes! Today, we celebrate you!
A Message to Our Page County Public Schools Community: A new program will allow PCPS students who are qualified to receive free or reduced price meals to also be eligible for additional assistance through a pandemic EBT program. We do not have all of the specifics or timeline yet, but this project will be in addition to the free meal delivery for all children 18 and under that is already occurring. If your child was already approved for free or reduced price meals, you do not have to do anything. Update from the superintendent's office: PCPS has been working in consultation with various agencies regarding school closures due to COVID-19. While we are awaiting official guidance from local and state agencies, we would encourage families to plan for the likely event of an extended school closure beyond the original March 27th date. While we do not have an official announcement just yet, we want our PCPS families to be prepared for this strong possibility, as an official decision is likely to be made sometime next week. When, and if, that happens, more communication regarding our instructional plans will be forthcoming. There is no academic emergency right now, so do not feel pressured to begin teaching your students at home; however, if you want things for your children to do, we have lots of resources listed on our website, pagek12.org (click on the Covid-19 button). Right now, students only need to be enjoying the safety of their homes and an extended spring break.
Each day our numbers continue to grow in our meal deliveries for children. Almost 600 meals were delivered on the first day.
