students from computer science class

Mrs. Atwood’s 6th grade Introduction to Computer Science students participated in an unplugged coding activity. Students were tasked with creating an origami fish with minimal instructions and no references, and then again with step-by-step instructions. Students then reflected on each part and how the activity relates to computer science, because a computer needs step-by-step instructions written in code to perform tasks. After individual reflections on the activity, the class made a poster to display character strengths and skills that were shown during the activity to include: problem solving skills, perseverance, patience, following directions, and many more. The poster will serve as a reference and encouragement when students are learning to code on the computer.
