Weather Update, Friday, January 19, 2024 Due to inclement weather all PCPS schools and offices will be closed on Friday, January 19, 2024 for all students and staff. All events and activities are cancelled. Thank you and please stay safe.
Good evening PCPS Faculty, Staff and Families, While there is a forecast of inclement weather in the area that could impact school tomorrow, Friday, January 19, 2024, we are waiting until the morning to make a decision. This decision would be made by 5:30am and will be to either close schools or call a delay if warranted. So that staff and families can be prepared, we are sharing this message with you this evening. Why are we waiting until the morning instead of making a decision tonight? Several weeks ago, a weather forecast called for several inches of snow and we received mostly rain. Given that we have already missed three days of school recently due to inclement weather, we want to be very sure that we do not call for a closure if one is not necessary. While safety will always be our primary concern when making weather calls, we also want to ensure that we protect valuable instructional time with our students whenever possible. We thank you for your continued support and patience.
Schools Opening Two-Hour Dealy - Thursday, January 18, 2023 All PCPS schools and offices will open on a two-hour delay on Thursday, January 18, 2024. Plan to arrive at your bus stop two hours later than you normally would and anticipate potential delays in transportation as our drivers will travel with extra care and caution. We ask parents or guardians of students who drive to school to talk with them about being particularly careful in the morning. We want everyone to arrive safely and ready to learn. Breakfast and lunch will be served at school. Please be advised that we needed to make changes to the breakfast and lunch menus for Thursday and these updates can be viewed on the division website. Thank you to the PCPS maintenance and custodial staff and grounds crew, as well as the County, towns, and VDOT for their work to clear roads, parking lots, and sidewalks. We thank everyone for their continued patience and flexibility as we continue to make decisions that have everyone’s safety as the primary concern. Thank you, stay safe and have a good evening.
Activities Update - January 17, 2024 Games that were scheduled today have been postponed. Practices may be held at the school’s discretion but will end by 4:30pm. Weather Update - Wednesday, January 17, 2024 Out of an abundance of caution and due to hazardous road conditions in some areas within the school division, especially on secondary roads, all PCPS schools will be closed on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. 12-month staff will report on a two-hour delay.
