Page County Technical Center Medical Assistant Students Complete Clinicals at Page Memorial Hospital
Clinical Medical Assistants at PCTC have finished their classroom instruction this week and will begin clinical observations next week at Page Memorial Hospital. Students have developed a solid knowledge base regarding the role of the Professional Medical Assistant in the healthcare setting. This includes having an understanding of the human body systems and the common diseases and disorders that may affect those systems. Students have been trained to obtain vital signs, administer medications through oral, intramuscular, and subcutaneous routes, phlebotomy (drawing a patient's blood), performing EKGs, as well as front office procedures.

The Cosmetology II students at Page County Technical Center are focusing on State Board preparation for both the theory and practical portions of the licensure exam. PCTC will host the Virginia State Board Practical portion of the examination on May 18th for students, as well as Cosmetology students graduating from Triplett Tech. Students have also have had guest speakers from the industry for salon job recruitment from The Hair Cuttery and Great Clips.
The Cosmetology I students are busy covering multiple nail chapters that require competencies such as acrylic and gel nail product application. Students begin by completing the service on artificial practice fingers while gaining speed and accuracy.

The nurse aide students finished up their clinical experience in April. They were able to put everything that they had learned in class into practice! They made connections with residents and staff members, and the experience has made them eager to continue in the healthcare field!

Last Friday, 5th-grade students from Shenandoah, Stanley, Luray, and Springfield visited the Page County Technical Center for the 5th Grade Extravaganza! Students rotated through Career and Technical Education tables to explore the programs PCPS offers, chose a trades lab for an extended hands-on session, and played a career simulation game where they experienced paying bills using the salaries of the careers they selected.
